Nokia will no longer use Symbian for it’s mobile OS
Thursday, December 22nd, 2011
Nokia has today announced through their official corporate blog that they will be terminating the name “Symbian” from all of their products. For example, the Symbian Belle will now be known as the “Nokia Belle”.
This will also apply to future Nokia operating systems including the “Carla” and the “Donna”. The Nokia Carla is expected to debut in the 2nd quarter of 2012 while the Donna to follow soon.
It was a good run for Symbian, but Nokia has no choice but to go with the signs of the times. It’s Android and iOS country baby, and the Finnish handset maker has no choice but to adapt if they want to stay.
After a year-long debate of whether Nokia has got what it takes to save the Windows Phone and viceversa, we have finally come to see in just a couple of days the fruit of both companies’ efforts.
